Maria from Georgia
I came to Greece around 8 years ago with the only goal of saving up money for my family. In Georgia I used to work for the Ministry of Agriculture but it was hard to raise my 2 kids.
It’s not easy to be away from home, but I want to help my kids. I don’t care about anything else. I don’t care about the clothes, the bags, nothing really. Everything I do, I do for my kids. I want to give them everything and that’s why I work for them. My daughter has been a lot of help recently, since she’s working and studying at the same time. She doesn’t ask for anything. But it’s not only the kids, I have my husband, my mother-in-law, my sister and my 2 nieces that I want to help too.
I miss my home, I miss my country, but most of all I miss my family and my friends. All those fun moments we have when we are together. But it’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make, so my family and my kids have a better future.
With Paylink – Western Union I feel close to them. I can do everything so fast and in only 10 minutes I know that my family will receive the money and they will be fine. I feel like I’m giving it to them myself. I don’t need to do anything else, they don’t need to wait and it’s all safe. And it feels like all my hard work, all our hard work, pays off. In the case there is an emergency, I can send money immediately, wherever I am in Athens. You can find a service point anywhere.
The branch I visit most often is the one in Kifissia, just because it’s close to work. Whenever I have time I prefer to head down to Omonoia and visit the branch there, because it offers better prices to send money to Georgia. I always combine my trip with a walk in Monastiraki, by the
antique and home stores. I daydream of my house in George and my family, and the day I will visit them again.
